The Gift of Fall

Fall has arrived, but (thankfully!) we still have some beautiful summer-like days in store, at least where I am!! Fall inspires us with the beautiful coloured leaves, deeper hues in our clothing, and rich coloured decorations.

I was making a card for the Fab Friday challenge with a Fall inspired colour theme. Here is the banner for the challenge.

I started my card with a tree cut from the Nature’s Roots dies, and used sponge daubers to add fall colours. Then I glued on some small maple leaves cut from the Seasonal Layers dies in Blackberry Bliss and Pretty Peacock Foil.

Here is my finished card.

I was enjoying these colours, so decided to make another card. The cutouts on this card were made with the Flourish dies.

I decided to make two of each of these cards, and a box to hold them, making it a perfect gift to give someone.
I used a pizza box pattern to make my box, using Garden Lane Designer Series Paper. These are easy to make, and fun to decorate. Start with a piece of 12 x 8 DSP or card stock. Score along the long side at 1”, 5 1/2”, 6 1/2”, and 11”. Turn your paper and score at 1” and 7”. Cut along the red lines in the picture, fold and adhere with strong adhesive like Tombow glue or Sticky Strip.

I wanted a large focal decoration for the top of my box. When I do this type of thing, I usually cut out a whole bunch of different pieces in various colours, then sit down to play with them and assemble my decoration.

I had all my pieces ready, and spread them over the top of the box until I was happy with how my box topper looked. Here is the finished box.

These boxes are easy and fun to make, and are sized perfectly to hold four cards and envelopes. Perfect for gift giving.
Why not give them a try. Handmade cards in a pretty box make a fantastic gift for family, friends, teachers, co-workers, etc. and Christmas is around the corner. Start now and you can take care of everyone on your list!
