Get Creative With A Sketch
Do you ever find yourself in a creative rut? A sketch may be just what you need. Let’s face it, we all have times where we are ready to craft, but the creative ideas are not coming. Starting with a sketch can be just the inspiration you need to get the creative side of you back on track.
There are lots of sketches available on the internet, a search will give you lots to choose from. You can adapt them any way you like, but they give you a guided starting point. I chose the above sketch because I liked the layout, but I made my cards standard size, so did not follow the measurements provided, and that’s what it is all about – making it yours!
I used the Happy Thoughts stamp set for all three cards, but changed up the rest of the elements to make each card unique.
This card used Soft Seafoam and Pacific Point ink and cardstock, along with the fun Berry Delightful Designer Series Paper.
I fussy cut the ‘happy thoughts’ sentiment from the larger sentiment on the stamp, and adhered it over my circles with Dimensionals. Some Opal Rounds finish it off.
This second card used DSP from the Well Suited DSP. I turned the card to landscape, and changed the circles and squares in the layout.
As this is a more masculine colour palette I didn’t want a lot of bling on my card. The Matte Black Dots are perfect for adding an embellishment without all the bling.
The final card switches back to portrait orientation, but I went more ‘free form’ with the elements. I cut flowers and leaves with the Perennial Petals Dies to create layered flowers and leaf accents for my card.
I used Petal Pink and Rococo Rose for my flowers, and Old Olive for the leaves. The DSP is the free Paper Blooms SAB paper, only available for one more week, until the end of February.
I made one card more masculine, one more feminine, and one kind of in the middle! I changed the shapes of the elements, and the overall layout of the card. The sketch is the starting point to get your creative side going, but there are no rules!
Why not find a sketch that interests you and make some cards, changing out elements and colours. You may be amazed at how different the cards can look, all with the same initial sketch.
Have fun creating!
