An Interesting Colour Combination

My card today uses an interesting colour combination. One that quite frankly, I did not think would work well, . . . but it does!!! This card is for the FabFriday Challenge, so I wanted to ‘play by the rules’ and give it a shot.

The colours for this challenge are Pretty Peacock, Terracotta Tile, Blushing Bride and Crushed Curry. Here is the colour palette for the challenge.

I really wasn’t sure how Terracotta Tile and Blushing Bride would work together, they are not two colours I would think to use on the same card. I decided to stamp the flower from Magnolia Blooms with Terracota Tile, and colour it with Blushing Bride using a Blender Pen. As I started to colour I realized it was working, and the two colours combined nicely to give me a soft flower with darker edging and highlights. Who knew? I cut a mask of the flower from paper, covered my flower, and sponged all around it with Crushed Curry.

I had stamped my flower on an ‘inside’ piece from the Heirloom Frames Dies & Embossing Folder set, so it fit perfectly inside the Terracotta Tile frame I had made.
I mounted it all on a piece of Pretty Peacock 6 x6 Designer Series Paper, and used a Pretty Peacock card base.
I hadn’t used a sentiment on the outside, and needed to add a piece of Whisper White card stock to my dark card base inside, so I stamped a Happy Birthday greeting, added one more little flower, and a strip of Terracotta Tile DSP.

I was surprised how well these colours worked together, and am glad I let this challenge push me to be creative outside my comfort zone.
Why not give it a try and see what you think. Sometimes the ‘oddest’ things turn out really pretty.
